Briškula Tournament Final Sun 29 Nov 09

This year’s Tournament highlight was surely the 3-way play-off for first place, with Miro Erceg(skip), Berislav Jujnovich, Karmelo Glucina and Bosko Provic(skip), Mladan Sokol, Tomo Mitrovic and Ivan Slavich(skip), George Farac, Boris Barbarich facing each other over a 3 hour “shoot out”.

This was high stakes Briškula played at representative standard, with three teams at the peak of their play, testing and probing each other, looking for weaknesses, trying to fool the opposition into errors, and ultimately, to win the most coveted prize that the CCS has to offer – the Briškula Crown. This was another great Tournament that enthralled the crowd that had gathered on the fi nal day. And yes, after 5 weeks of intense play, there was a winner.

Congratulations to Ivan Slavich (skip), George Farac and Boris Barbarich who took out the Tournament with a flawless display of Briškula at its dizzying best. This particular combination has been remarkably stable over the years, and their tight play, intuitive banter and bluff coupled to great memory saw them
too strong for the other fi nalists. Slavich (the “Conductor”) had two “Pentium’s” at his disposal with both Farac and Barbarich counting points and discarded cards. Their ability to keep up their concentration and the sheer pace required at these high levels of competition was nothing short of phenomenal.

Well done, Champions. Second place went to another highly polished and longstanding combination; Miro Erceg (skip), Berislav Jujnovich, Karmelo Glucina. Well done for a fine performance. And a very creditable Third place went to; Bosko Provic (skip), Mladan Sokol, Tomo Mitrovic. Provic (another they call the “computer”) has consistently placed in the top three over the last 20 years and is always a force to be reckoned with.

Well done to all the winning teams, and also the other participating teams, who were great sports and added to the magic of the atmosphere.
Special thanks to the Tournament Controllers: Tonko Tolich and Tonči Antunovich.

Briskula is played every Sunday afternoon.

Bar is open and you can stay for the Sunday night dinner.

If you're not a regular on Sunday afternoon's at the club, then it's time to dust off that pack of cards hidden at the back of the third drawer in the kitchen.
