KRALJ TOMISLAV GOES ON TOUR!!

kt

In July this year, the Kralj Tomislav Folklore Ensemble Senior group has been invited to perform at the annual International Folklore Festival in Zagreb.
The group will be travelling to Croatia with many dances and songs under their belts, and are looking forward to representing their club, culture, and country.

“The International Folklore Festival is one of the top events of folklore expressions in Croatia, namely an event representing amateur folklore groups dedicated to preserving and presenting local heritage. The event has been taking place in Zagreb since 1966, continuing the tradition of the Festival of Croatian Village Culture that was organized in the 1930s. The International Folklore Festival aims to present and promote traditional values of all nations and cultures, contributing to the efforts of preserving cultural diversities in the globalized world.” www.msf.hr

The Senior Kolo group will be hosting a Showcase dinner on Saturday, 28th May at the Croatian Cultural Society.  This is the group’s major fundraising event, and they would love you to come along, have a great night, and show your support.

Tickets are $50 including dinner and raffle entry, and all donations are greatly appreciated.
Contact Information is on the poster below, or speak to anyone in the Senior Kolo to pass on your request.

Folklore News

logoOver the past 2 years, since Goran Kacurov and his family have been with us in Auckland, the Kraj Tomislav group has grown to over 120 people actively dancing, singing, or playing in one of the musical bands! As this has grown to such a great amount of people, it seems that almost every member of the Croatian Cultural Society, has someone in their family who is part of the Kraj Tomislav Ensemble- from the little 4year olds to the Senior Groups.

Coming to Kolo is more than just learning to dance/sing or play an instrument. It has brought about new life to the club members, and has become a social network for people to keep our cultural alive in our children and grandchildren.

This past month a new sub-committee has been formed, as this amount of people need to have their own voice and representation within the Croatian Cultrual Society. So with 2 representatives from each Kraj Tomislav group, and the experience of past Kraj Tomislav committee members such as Neven Grgicevich, Fabian Ukich and George Bonkovich, the new group will be meeting every month to hopefully make the adminstrative side of running such a big group flow smoothly. Each month we would like to bring you the members a progress report and any interesting news that has happened to Kraj Tomislav.

kt-groupAs you will see from the attached letter Kraj Tomislav has made a splash internationally! Every year the Minisrty of Cultural Affairs in Zagreb host a cultural festival . Each year they chose a theme. This coming year 2011, the Ministry has chosen to have the Kraj Tomislav Ensemble as the main focus of the entire festival! This is great honour for our ensemble - and especially highlights the professionalism of Goran Kacurov; that he has managed in less than 2 years to bring our ensemble up to such a high standard dancing and singing!

Kraj Tomislav will be focusing in the next 12 months on fundraising so that as many of the group as possible can attend and perform at this festival. Not only is the Senior invited, but Goran will be assessing all of the groups and possibly taking some of the younger members as well.

Also we have been very fortunate that through Goran's contacts in Croatia that the Kraj Tomislav group have been able to purchase several sets of new costumes - some were offered to us at a 50% discount, which has also been fortunate.

The Tamburica Orchestra have been practising and Goran is very impressed with their levels of achievement, and looks forward to showcasing their skills at the next performance.
